The Fanatics Grooming Guide

A no-fluff playbook from our master barbers — how often to cut, how to ask for the right fade, how to keep your beard sharp, and how to maximize your visits.

01

How Often Should You Cut?

The honest rule from our chairs: most haircuts in Pearland stay sharp for 2 to 4 weeks. Tighter fades (skin / low) need every 2 weeks to keep clean. Mid-length and classic cuts can stretch to 4 to 6 weeks before they start to lose their shape.

Hot tip: book your next appointment when you book the current one. Standing weekly or bi-weekly slots are the single biggest fix for "I look messy by Friday."

  • Skin fade or low fade: every 2 weeks
  • Mid fade or taper: every 3 weeks
  • Scissor cut / longer style: every 4–6 weeks
  • Beard-only trim: every 2–3 weeks

How to Ask for the Right Fade

Walking in and saying "just a fade" is the fastest way to leave unhappy. Use this 3-part formula every time, even if you've been a regular for years:

  • 1. Height: low (around the ear), mid (mid-temple), high (above the temple)
  • 2. Taper at the bottom: skin / 0 / #1 / #2 — the lower the number the tighter the finish
  • 3. Length on top: "leave 2 inches," "scissor on top," or "match the photo"

Bring a reference photo every time. Even master barbers prefer photos to vague descriptions — "low skin fade with 2 inches on top, scissor-finished" is a sentence we love hearing.

The 3-Step Daily Beard Routine

Most "patchy beards" are actually well-grown beards that have never been brushed. Use this routine and your beard will look 30% fuller within a week:

  • Brush daily: a boar-bristle brush trains hair to grow downward
  • Oil after shower: 3–5 drops of beard oil while skin is still warm — softens hair, eliminates itch
  • Trim every 2–3 weeks: even if it's "just shaping," a clean line under the cheek is what makes a beard look sharp

What to Bring to Your Appointment

  • A clear reference photo (or a name like "Pomp fade" or "modern scissor cut")
  • The cadence you can realistically maintain (so we tailor the cut to fit your lifestyle)
  • Honesty about your hair quirks — cowlicks, thinning spots, scalp sensitivity. We work around all of it.
  • Your phone (we can pull up your last cut from our records or your old photos)
